Cool Coffee Shop of the Week
Spiller Park Coffee
Who are the founders?
James Beard award-winning chef Hugh Acheson and talented barista, Dale Donchey, who also started Steady Pour House
Where did it start?
As a coffee kiosk in Ponce City Market
When did it start?
2015
How many locations are there now?
2 Locations; the coffee kiosk at Ponce City Market; and the full-size coffee shop at 2929 North Druid Hills Road in Toco Hills
What’s unique about this place?
The theme of the coffee shop is based on the historic Atlanta baseball stadium, Spiller Park, that was built in 1924 on Ponce De Leon Avenue for the Atlanta Crackers. Some elements include walls designed to resemble the pine tar on a bat, Hoolie, the bear mascot name referenced in several places, including the WiFi password
What kind of food and coffee do they serve?
The coffee includes two George Howell varieties from Guatemala and Colombia, and Ethiopian Beans from Intelligentsia
One of the most unique beverages is the Cola-Cocktail, which includes a combination of tea syrup that is filled with Coke and a shot of espresso. The combination is then poured into a mason jar and topped off with coconut crème and star anise to create a Milky Way effect.
Also, the Hugh Acheson inspired toast is to die for, and can come with a variety of toppings from jam to nut butter to avocado
